West Hills Golf News – May 25, 2020

Good afternoon everyone,

I wanted to provide a quick update on a couple of topics/questions that some of you have inquired about.

Driving Range – just a reminder that our range is closed on Monday evenings at 5:30 sharp for a clean pick and reopens at 11am on Tuesday mornings after maintenance is finished cutting.

Special range note:  This Tuesday we may require additional time on the range to finish the construction of the net that covers the creek.

Also, we would ask all long hitters that use our range to be aware of the golfers on #13 and to avoid hitting driver whenever traffic is visible on the tee deck(s).  We will also be adding extra range signage to remind all players of this rule.

Cart Path Only – We are shifting to the 90 degree rule as of Tuesday morning, but our superintendent has asked to keep the CPO rule for the following holes so that the seed that has been planted has time to catch/grow.  The holes that will remain CPO are 1, 2, 4, 12, 16, and 18.

Two Golfers per Cart – We are now allowing 2 per power cart in situations that line up with updated provincial protocols.  Please ask a staff member when you arrive for details.

Putting – please refrain from pulling the flag out.  We still have some golfers attempting to do this.

West Hills Golf News – May 19, 2020

Good afternoon everyone,

Just a follow up to my message on Friday, I wanted to provide the following list of our updated Covid-19 protocols/golfer’s guide to WHG:   

West Hills Golf Covid-19 Protocols/Golfer’s Guide

  1. Golfers must always abide by the social distancing guidelines while on the property (2m-6ft rule).
  2. Golfers must book a tee time online or by calling the clubhouse at 450-4653. Walk-ons will not be permitted.
  3. When booking, the booker must give complete names for the other players in the group.  This complies with provincial protocol for contact tracing.
  4. Golfers will be permitted onto the property 20 minutes before their scheduled tee time.
  5. Members can check in directly with the starter (located at starter shack).
  6. Golf carts will be limited to one person per cart and one golf bag per cart unless from the same household.
  7. Maximum of 2 customers in the clubhouse at one time. The greeter/staff member will be near the clubhouse entrance to maintain this limit.
  8. Golf carts, pull carts and range balls will be disinfected before and after each use.
  9. The clubhouse washrooms (staff only) and on course washrooms will be closed and there will be a washroom provided in the parking lot located in front of the power cart building.
  10. Golfers will be asked to pick up drinks and snacks before their round or after 9 holes.  Beverage carts are currently not permitted.  Please call the clubhouse at 450-GOLF so we can have it ready for you on the turn.  We will also try to offer delivery when staff is available.
  11. On course rules – Flags must not be touched.  No rakes, no club washers, no ball washers and no garbage cans are permitted on the golf course. Specially designated garbage cans will be provided after the 9th hole and 18th hole and golfers are asked to place all garbage in the bins provided.
  12. All bunkers are considered ground under repair.  Players will be allowed to drop at the nearest point of relief outside of the bunker with no penalty.  (Golf Canada – Rule 16.1)
  13. The WHG starters and marshals will be on the golf course on a regular basis to make sure that the pace of play and all safety protocols are being followed.  Any golfer that is found not following any of the WHG safety protocols will be asked to leave the course immediately.  There will be no exceptions.
  14. After the round, all golfers will be asked to leave the property immediately to avoid social gatherings.

Driving Range Operation and Opening Hours – We have adjusted our spacing to comply with the 2m/6ft protocol which leaves us with a total of 12 spots available.  We have also created 12 waiting spots to accommodate the first come first serve approach.   Current Range hours are set at 7:30am to 7pm daily with adjustment in hours on Monday nights (closing at 5:30pm to complete clean pick) and reopening on Tuesday morning at 11am (maintenance).  Range basket size will dictate the time each golfer has at the range.  Time will be the following:   Warm-up basket (26B) = 20min, Medium basket (52B) = 40min and Large basket (78B) = 60min. 

We expect to be very busy over the next 2 weeks, so we appreciate your patience as we continue the staff training process and adapt to changes in provincial protocols.

As per our superintendent, we will be starting the season off with the Cart Path Only rule in play.

West Hills Golf News – May 15, 2020

Good afternoon everyone,

I wanted to provide a quick update regarding opening day booking and how/when you can do this.

Opening day is set for Wednesday May 20th for both the course and the driving range.

We realize that all of you have been waiting patiently to get out and golf, so we have decided that both Wednesday and Thursday will be for members only!  (please understand that we would love to have guests of members on those days, but we really want members to be able to access the course first).  This will also allow us to continue the training process and work out any details that we are currently updating based on revised provincial protocols.

Tee time reservations will start at 9am on Monday morning for both online and over the phone options.  We will not be taking bookings at the clubhouse.

I will also be providing a final update on Monday to address updated provincial protocols along with what all golfers need to know when they arrive at the course.

West Hills Golf News – May 12, 2020

Good afternoon everyone,

After multiple talks today with ownership regarding 10min tee time intervals and the 2 power carts per tee time (sent in my earlier message).  I am happy to say that we will be revising our tee times to 15min and will be allowing 4 carts out per tee time to start the season.

We will look to revisit both options when/if the province moves into stage 3 of the recovery process.  We will need to consider the impact of having 4 cart traffic on our fairways as we move forward, so we will be providing a further update on this shortly.

West Hills Golf News – May 12, 2020

Good morning everyone,

I wanted to provide a quick update regarding certain changes to the provincial guidelines and our course/range opening date.

Based on the snow over the weekend and current temperatures, we have now revised our opening date for the course/range to Wednesday May 20th (weather permitting).  Our superintendent will be providing an additional blog update to comment on the weather and temperature from the past week.

With the province now moving into phase 2 of the recovery, a number of the initial guidelines have now been updated or changed.  For example, we are now permitted to set our own tee time intervals, so we will be starting the season at our regular 10min intervals back from the 20min initially proposed.  Along with tee time changes, we are now able to open our clubhouse at a limited capacity. We are currently outfitting our building (as per the provincial guidelines) with proper signage, acrylic shields and approved cleaning products/procedures to protect our staff and customers for opening day.

Regarding power carts, we are still restricted to one rider per cart (golfers that reside in the same household can travel in the same cart/no bubble consideration at this time) and we will manage the allocation of the carts based on member priority booking.  We will be working off a two carts per group policy unless the daily bookings allow for us to permit otherwise.  Please plan on only two people in your foursome to be permitted to ride per round.

This will definitely be a season of compromise as we deal with the “new” normal, so we ask for everyone’s patience going forward.  We will be providing a complete update on Monday to address opening day booking options for members along with what golfers need to know when they arrive at our course.
